BMM Cabo San Lucas
Introduction to our
Services
Cabo San Lucas (CSL) SSS Hyperbaric facility is located at the
southernmost tip of the Baja peninsula, where divers from all
around the world come to dive the underwater canyon and observe
the unique underwater sand falls. About 50 kms from CSL is Cabo
Pulmo, which is the only living coral reef of the Eastern Pacific
Seaboard. About 100 kms north of Cabo Pulmo are the islands off of
La Paz and Loreto, where one can dive year round with giant
mantas, hammerhead schools, whale sharks, and sea lions.
This Sea of Cortez (also known as "Gulf of California")
is one of the most densely populated seas in the world with
profusion and variety of sea life.
Our Recompression unit has Instructors (Dive, CPR, 1st Aid, 02),
Physicians, EMT, chamber operators and inside tenders, trained by
accredited international associations in hyperbaric medicine. Our
personnel is constantly updating in rescue techniques, and taking:
PHTLS, ACLS, ATLS, and is continuously participating in EMS and
evacuation activities whenever our services are required with the
local Aquatic Rescue team of the Red Cross, The Fire Brigade, and
the Coast Guard.
Safety
Our facilities promote safety through the education of dive staff
and operators.
Area Hospitals work closely with our facilities and often consult
with our chamber medical staff on DCI related topics to ensure
early recognition and treatment of diving accidents. Our
continuing medical education and training program has a
special relationship with the Catalina (California) Chamber -
Member of the Wrigley Institute for Marine Sciences.
Our operation (with the aid of several locally based dive operators)
has drawn up evacuation plans and as a result, speedy transport from all popular dive locations by ambulance is
available to participating members.
ALSO
We offer (free of charge) Dive Accident Management training to all
our members. It should be noted that BMM Cabo is a advisor to Baja
University in matters of safety to their ocean research program.
Charity
For humanitarian reasons, BMM Cabo is prepared to offer
our services pro bono in the treatment of the unfortunate and
uneducated indigenous local scallop fishermen. This typical nominal fee to
cover laundry, oxygen and utilities.
These poor fishermen are ignorant of the cause and effect that
unsafe diving practises produce and eventualy many end them arrive
at our facility in dire need but with little or no money. We
continue with efforts to persuade them to receive better training
though.
