BMM started operations in 1987 on the Island of Cozumel. This was at a time when Cozumel was considered the most spectacular dive site in the Caribbean and WHEN there were NO functional recompression chambers in the area. When accidents occured, DCI Victims had to be evacuated to the USA at risk to life and limb. 

This situation changed after BMM installated the first of 4 recompression chambers in this region. The first to Cozumel in 1987, the second to Belize in 1989 followed by a third to Cancun in 1991 and a fourth unit to Playa del Carmen in 1995. Further, to ensure that BMM covered the West Coast of Mexico, a chamber was also installed in Cabo San Lucas in 1996. 

In the year 2000 BMM expaneded its Cozumel operations in 2 significant ways. It expandedits original location 5 fold to create a full fledged small hospital and it deployed another chamber at a satellite location, right by the dive reef.
